Frequently Asked Question's
What is a Grab Truck?
A grab truck is a heavy rigid vehicle equipped with a hydraulic arm and clamshell bucket, allowing it to load, transport, and unload materials without the need for additional machinery. It’s a fast, efficient solution for removing spoil, green waste, construction debris, and more — all with one truck and one operator.
Why Should I Choose Grab Hire?
Grab Hire offers more than just a truck — we deliver smart, efficient solutions that save you time, money, and hassle. Our grab trucks self-load and place materials exactly where you need them, eliminating double handling, minimising labour, and improving site safety. Plus, we operate 24/7 with same-day availability.
Who Uses Grab Hire?
Our services are trusted by civil contractors, builders, landscapers, councils, utility providers, homeowners, and emergency services. Whether you’re managing large-scale infrastructure or just clearing a backyard, Grab Hire has the right tools and team to get it done.
What Are the Dimensions of a Grab Truck?
Our standard grab trucks are approximately 11m long, 2.5m wide, and 3.5m high. Clearance and access requirements may vary by site, so we’re happy to advise during booking to make sure access is safe and efficient.
How Much Can a Grab Truck Carry?
Each truck carries up to 13 tonnes or up to 15 cubic metres depending on the material type and density. That’s equivalent to 2–3 standard skip bins — but with no double handling.
How Far Can the Grab Arm Reach?
Our trucks can reach up to 8.1 metres from the edge of the vehicle, making it possible to load or unload over fences, walls, or into hard-to-access areas like trenches and embankments.
Grab Hire vs Skip Bin – What’s the Difference?
Unlike skip bins, grab trucks load waste directly, eliminating the need for wheelbarrows, loaders, or multiple visits. There’s no permit needed, no hire period, and no container sitting on your driveway. With grab hire, we arrive, load, and leave — all in one efficient trip.
Do You Offer Same-Day Service?
Yes. We operate 24/7 with flexible, same-day bookings available across Sydney and beyond. We understand urgent jobs and respond quickly to keep your project on track.
What Areas Do You Service?
Grab Hire services Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, and selected regional areas across NSW. We’re also available for emergency and disaster recovery deployments interstate. Reach out and we’ll let you know if we can help.
How do I prepare for a Grab truck?
Make sure waste is clearly piled and accessible for side loading. Avoid placing it under trees, near overhead powerlines, or behind parked vehicles. Materials should be free of prohibited waste like asbestos, chemicals, or liquid contaminants to ensure safe and compliant loading.
Do you offer scheduled or ongoing services?
Yes. We work with civil contractors, councils, and utilities to provide recurring site support, scheduled waste removal, and programmed deliveries. Just let us know your project schedule and we’ll make it seamless.
Can you load over a fence or wall?
Yes — that’s one of our specialties. With a 8.1m reach and precise hydraulic control, we can load/unload over most fences, barriers, and even into basements or behind retaining walls — with no damage to surrounding property.
How long does the job take?
On average, our trucks load waste or deliver materials in 8–10 minutes depending on the job scope. There’s no waiting for bins to be filled or tippers to return — we get in, get the job done, and move on.
What access is required for a Grab Truck?
A typical grab truck needs approximately 3.5 metres of width and 3.5 metres in height for access. We can often operate from the street or nature strip — and because we use a hydraulic arm, we don’t need to enter the work zone to load or unload.
Can Grab Trucks deliver and remove material in the same visit?
Yes — and it’s one of the smartest ways to use a Grab Truck. We can deliver virgin or recycled materials and remove spoil in a single visit. This dual-purpose service is ideal for trench backfills, landscaping, and projects with tight construction programs.
What can’t a Grab Truck take?
Grab Trucks are unable to collect hazardous or regulated waste, including asbestos (bonded or friable), chemicals, paints, solvents, oils, fuels, gas bottles, batteries, medical or biological waste, contaminated soil (unless tested and approved), and any explosive or pressurised items. If you’re unsure whether your material is acceptable, just ask — we’re happy to help you stay safe and compliant.
